Salary: £20.00 to £25.00 per hour

Hours: Sessional/ Various Hours

Event: Careers Open Day 25th January 9.30am – 12:00pm, HMP Hewell.


As part of our Careers Event, we are currently seeking passionate and flexible Art Tutors to work with students from a variety of backgrounds at HMP Hewell and HMP Long Lartin. The ideal candidates will be creative Art lecturers, who can thrive upon working within a challenging yet rewarding environment, who can offer Art skills & knowledge to our learners and guide them throughout their Art courses.

This is an exciting opportunity for dedicated education professionals to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated, adaptable and professional Tutors, who have excellent emotional intelligence and communication skills. The ideal candidates will be passionate and creative lecturers, who can thrive upon working within challenging yet rewarding environments.


As a successful candidate, you will have:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Art.
  • A full teaching qualification (DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed).
  • Assessor/Verifier Awards (desirable).
  • Teaching/training or vocational experience in a relevant discipline/subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
  • A proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
  • Experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources.
  • Experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
  • Knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
  • The ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
  • A good level of IT literacy and willing to develop further.
  • Accuracy and precision in written presentation.


About HMP Hewell

HMP Hewell is a category B/C/D local split between two sites within open countryside and landscaped gardens. The prison has a maximum capacity of 1250 males over 21 years of age. As part of Milton Keynes College’s expansion in Offender Learning, they are seeking to recruit innovative, creative teachers. The College delivers a broad curriculum encompassing vocational training, functional skills, employability and personal and social development skills. The Education provision is delivered in purpose-built Education Departments and vocational workshops across the two sites. 


About HMP Long Lartin

Long Lartin is a Category A high security dispersal prison which forms part of the High Security Directorate. The prison, which occupies the site of a former War Department Ordnance Depot, was built in the 1960s and opened as a prison in 1971.  Although originally opened as a Category C prison, it was upgraded to provide dispersal level security in 1973. Additional wings were opened in June 1999 and May 2009, substantially increasing the capacity of the prison. The average prison roll is 616.
